Dear LOADSTAR 128,
I just happened to have my mouse still plugged in when I ran an issue
and noticed that the button works fine but I couldn't cursor around the
menu with it. Is there any way the LOADSTAR 128 menu could be made mouse-
conscious? I wish I were a programmer so I could tackle this.
How about a program to print out color pics from LOADSTAR 128?
Richard C. Olson
Depew NY
LS: If we were to use Maurice Randall's MOUSE 80 from LS 128 #15 I'm sure
that the menu could be made to work with a mouse. The only problem is that
adding mouse support would add quite a bit of code to "presenter.128" as
well as the 8 block "mouse80.o" object code. The code and object file
overhead are negligible for most programs that could use mouse support, but
for a menu program like LOADSTAR 128, which is to be loaded and run between
EVERY program, the extra load time would be noticeable. Jon Mattson wrote
"presenter.128" to be as efficient and compact as possible. The bottom
line is that I cringe at the thought of messing too much with a proven
program like "presenter.128". However, if someone out there does the work,
tests it thoroughly and sends me the program... Who knows?
Our philosophy on printing, especially in color, is to use hardware, not
software. The folks who make Super Snapshot V5 and Explode! have solved
the millions of problems connected to printing on different printers and
couldn't be matched by anything we'd come up with. But you're asking about
pics from LS 128 which are mainly BASIC 8 pics. The only way I know of to
print 80-column pics is to use BASIC 8 itself. We will be publishing an
e.g. bell routine that allows programmers to add printer support to their
programs that show 40-column graphics, but it doesn't do color.
Dear LOADSTAR 128,
I'm having trouble with the menu screen on DISKSERVANT on LS 128 #21.
It won't stay stable on the screen. Please help.
Baudouin Bisqueret
Liege, Belgium
LS: DISKSERVANT was first written for the European PAL system then modified
to work on the NTSC system. I have to adjust my Horizontal and Vertical
controls on my monitor a little to get the screen to stay steady. Have you
tried tweaking your controls? Alf Jonassen does some screen tricks to give
DISKSERVANT that 40-column look in the 80-column mode. If tweaking the
monitor's Hor. and Vert. controls don't steady the screen, then I'm at a
loss for theories. Alf allowed us to publish his address on the disk so
you may try writing to him.
Dear LOADSTAR 128,
How about adding a save feature for the Critique program? I would
like to look at some things and come back to the critique after each one.
Carl Hellner
Kenesaw NE
LS: I'll look into this, but keep in mind that a letter done with a word
processor will get to me just as well as the critique. Of course with your
word processor there's no problem in saving and editing your file then
printing it out when it's finally finished.
Dear LOADSTAR 128,
I've had KeyDOS ROM in my C-128 for a couple of years. You are LATE,
with OLD NEWS...
Cleveland Greenough
Long Beach CA
LS: The review was for KeyDOS ROM II, which is not as old as the first
version, but you're right, it's not an up-to-the-minute product for the C-
128. Are there any up-to-the-minute products for the C-128? Besides
LOADSTAR 128?
